The healthcare professional can adjust basal flow rate, bolus delivery rate, bolus dose volume, bolus lockout, and bag volume. These changes can be made anytime during treatment (pre-op, intra-op, and post-op) without having to replace the pump or catheter.

Cost Effectiveness

	Ambit pumps allow the healthcare professional the flexibility to tailor their pain managemnt program(s) to meet their patients' pain management needs. The Ambit PCA pump can be reused. The cassette is disposed of after each therapy to insure volumetric accuracy and sterility. Reusing the Ambit PCA pump significantly lowers the per use cost of the pump.
	Ambit pumps are designed to accept any size bag and can be used with male or female luer connections, or a bag spike connection. Sorenson Medical manufactures and sells 250 mL or 420 mL fluid bags. If additional fluid volume is needed, the bag can be replaced without purchasing an additional pump.

	When comparing any two medical devices, it is important to examine the overall utility of the device. A device that can be safely used in multiple applications should be more highly valued than a device that is limited in its use.
	Fewer devices are required to be purchased by a facility if the device can be used in multiple applications, and it becomes less likely that healthcare providers are going to accidentally use a device outside of its approved indications.
