The 1o2 drug delivery system is truly a revolutionary valve with the first technology that provides automatic checkvalve security, yet allows the aspiration of fluid with the simple push of a button. Offering both high flow rates and ultra low dead space, the 1o2 is yet another groundbreaking innovation from ICU Medical. As an added benefit, the 1o2 Valve is also available on any custom set containing a Clave® Connector.

Frequently Asked Questions About The 1o2 Valve Drug Delivery System

What is the priming volume of the manifold?

Approximately .5cc per valve. A three-gang manifold would be about 1.5cc excluding the individual valve deadspace of 0.025cc.

What is the flow restriction in the manifold?

The standalone 1o2 drug delivery system flows more than 600cc per minute, or greater than a nine (9) French. The 1o2 manifold, as with a stopcock manifold will flow less according to how many valves or stopcocks are in the gang. Gang for gang the 1o2 will flow more than a stopcock.

What pressure does it take to activate the valve (cracking pressure)?

The sideport cracking pressure is three (3) pounds (psi). It is a normally closed pressure-activated checkvalve which requires positive pressure to activate. This means pump, syringe or pressure bag only. The 1o2 sideport does not flow with gravity alone. this provides the security that prevents accidental bolus or mixing of fluids on the manifold.

How long can the manifold be left on a patient's line?

Whatever the hospital protocol is for tubing changes. ICU tests the functionality of the product for five days.

How do I remove an air bubble that is trapped in the line?

Easily through any of the 1o2 sideports. Push the button and aspirate the bubble into a syringe, or allow positive pressure to automatically prime it out the port.

Where is the fluid coming from when I aspirate?

From the main line. In order to do a clean blood draw you must use the primary line clamp to prevent dilution of the blood sample. When drawing a diluant from the bag, positive pressure physics will only allow you to be drawing fluid in from the hanging bag. Or if a clinician deems it necessary, clamp on the patient side.

My hospital has a purchasing contract, can I get the 1o2 drug delivery system?

Most likely yes. There is no other technology similar to the 1o2, therefore it may allow purchase under new technology clauses.

What if I leave a cap off the sideport by accident; Is the system open?

The 1o2 is tested to sixteen (16) bolous infusions or activations, and sixteen (16) aspirations by pushing the button and drawing back to fill a syringe, every day, for five days. The total to equal 32 a day for five days, or 160 actual activations.

How many times can I infuse through the valve? How many times can I push the button and aspirate?

The 1o2 is a closed valve so essentially nothing will happen. The valve will not entrain air or leak fluid. This is what is sometimes called Bernoulli's Principal if a vacuum (negative pressure) is created in the manifold, or the Venturi Effect. The cap is a security measure for sterility.

How many times can I push the button and aspirate?

Approximately .5cc per valve. A three-gang manifold would be about 1.5cc excluding the individual valve deadspace of 0.025cc.
